This Album was released In 2011 which you can definitely tell by the sound but that is not a bad thing in Drakes case as this album truly is a masterpiece. This isn't Drake's best album to this date in my opinion but that does not mean it isn't a staple Drake album. I mean this album truly is a classic and was Drake properly setting himself up for legendary status within the rap game and that is probably an understatement because today Drake is one of if not the biggest rapper to have stepped foot in the industry.
This album has some very popish/melodic instrumentals to it and some superstar features from artists like Lil Wayne and Rihanna. With the song Take Care feature Rihanna, no matter if you listen to it for the first time today or on day release you can't help but love it because it perfectly mixes pop and rap with this upbeat piano track with the Caribbean feeling kick drums. Drake's voice in these early albums is much softer than today so he manages to pull off the pop vibe a lot better than modern day.
Marvins Room as a song is probably the most famous song from the album. It is the quintessential heartbreak song and no matter the vibe, whether in the club or in your car on a rainy night you can always turn up to this song even though it is a slow and more mellow song than most songs in drakes discography. It has an unforgettable legacy connected to where I truly believe that if you are a country music fan or even a metal fan you could still have an appreciation for this song because of how good it is. He sings in this soft melodic voice and then switches into rapping flawlessly and in all honesty you just can't hate this song and in general this album because it is just a classic album.
I truly believe you cannot hate this album just off the fact of how classic it is. If there is one thing this album does not lack it is quality. Beyond all this positivity I have given this album I have to be honest that this is NOT my favourite drake album, personally I cannot listen to a lot of this early 2010's rap style I find it kind of corny but that does not mean it is terrible! I think if what you're looking for is just a good vibe album with some beautiful instrumentals and memorable lyrics then this is definitely an album for you to listen to.
My favourite song's from this album are Lord Knows and Marvins Room, these two songs are just amazing and I have 0 hate for them and on the other hand my two least favourite songs We'll Be Fine and HYFR. I think We'll Be fine is just lacklustre and has a very boring instrumental and the lyrics are just mediocre and HYFR just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and i'm not sure what exactly it is about this song it just isn't one I could willingly listen to!
Overall I will be giving this album a 8.7/10 because it's just a pretty good album and it is brilliant for its time. It ages well and even tho it is outdated it isn't a dislikable album. Its a solid album and that's why I have given it a pretty solid rating.
